of fatwah and fitnah
This has been inside of me for too many years now.
–
Schismatics, asthmatics.
can’t breathe
When they’re telling me,
How I seethe
When they’re telling me,
Where to pray.
What to display.
Yes, yes,
I am oppressed.
Compressed
by your ignorance.
Don’t you see you’re all the same?
To cover me,
To uncover me,
for fuck sakes
let me be.
Forgive me
of profanity.
Dear Almighty,
Let it not be.
—
You’re dangerous man,
Coz they’re think you’re right,
And on the menu we
Have crooked rib tonight.
Mufti,
Is it permissible
for me
To sometimes
Maybe
You know
think freely?
As long as it is
Within the confines
Of your mind.
–
Don’t break my faith.
You won’t break my faith
You can’t break my faith.
I submit
I submit
I submit
God be with me,
I’ll be patient,
I have lived all my life,
For your judgment.

it does become hard, na? all these questions. i find though, that i answer them best for myself. and am amused (though i seldom bother to argue) by the pedantic, bigoted hoardes. it’s scary thinking you’re always right. yet, they seem to unafraid. speaking on Allah’s behalf as though they know His mind

When I think I’ve just read your best post ever, you top it with the next.. and the next… and the next! Talent, Saaleha! You have summed up what so many of us feel so passionately for so long!

It seems these issues are coming up more and more these days – to me at least, because we’re not THAT exposed to the kinds of thinking that you get in your part of the country.
Recently, there was a big debate about the Majlis attacking one of the senior MJC imams…over, what else? Chicken.
I think so much of the problem is that we have some cultural baggage which has nothing to do with Islam – yet it’s been dressed up as “Islamic”.
Anyway, I’m not so coherent here – but I get what you’re saying and I sympathise.
