*”Ya Mawla, send prayers and peace always and forever Upon Your beloved, the best out of all of Creation.” –
They stoned you once
until your feet were shod in the blood
that was to be the balm for humankind.
And now they stone you again,
their trajectories more sinisterly misguided,
for they stumble blindly on your path.

floods my face.
hands now too
heavy for sin.
shape them
into broken bowls
forgive me for
all I’ve been.

In this game of
talking to God,
she is careful
to cover her toes
with the cloth
from her mother’s
jilbab.
Her hands pat
away at a tangled fringe
and away she goes;
Up
Down
Touch the ground.
LipsĀ pursed
in the swiss-swiss-swiss
of beautiful
sweet
pious
gibberish.
In this play of pray,
surely God loves best
the sincerity.
